Sprout was developed by Allison Etchison and Amanda Lucey, friends from way back in the days when they both worked at a restaurant called Venezia, in Berkeley. The two moved to Sonoma County at different times—first Amanda, in 2001; then Allison in 2005—both with families either in tow or forthcoming. Once they found themselves in the same county again, the girls quickly strengthened their old connection and began spending oodles of time together. At an early morning play date, Allison and Amanda dreamily talked about purchasing Kid n’ Kaboodle, a children’s consignment store that just happened to be on the market. Three weeks later, Allison and Amanda were the proud (and slightly overwhelmed) new owners of a children’s store. With Allison’s talent for concept development and merchandising (among many other things), and Amanda’s love of garage-sale shopping, the two cobbled together their store in a matter of a month. They opened on December 1st, 2007, to much fanfare, and are loving their little Sprout. |
